The WATDEV project developed an integrated modelling approach to understand how agricultural and water management practices affect the environment, farming systems and climate resilience. Combining hydrological analysis, groundwater dynamics, soil conditions and crop productivity, it assessed the impact of Best Management Practices such as agroforestry, efficient irrigation, crop rotation, mulching and rainwater harvesting.
This work led to the WATDEV Toolbox: a digital platform integrating modelling results, field data and local knowledge to support evidence-based decisions. It allows users to compare management scenarios, view results through indicators and maps, and plan more sustainable interventions. Available at a Basic level (with predefined, customizable scenarios) and at an Advanced level (upload of own scenarios), the Toolbox makes complex knowledge accessible to researchers, technicians and decision-makers.
