WATDEV Monitoring Mission in Ethiopia and Kenya - April 2024

From April 17th to April 24th, 2024, key representatives of the WATDEV project visited Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Nairobi, Kenya, to monitor progress and plan future activities. The mission, involving experts from ARCO, CIHEAM Bari, and AICS Cairo, highlighted the project's commitment to integrated water resources management and sustainable agriculture.

In Ethiopia, the team engaged with local partners at AICS Addis and the WLRC headquarters.

Dr. Tena Agumassie from WLRC presented their work in agroforestry and water users’ associations benefiting almost 2,500 farmers. Despite security concerns leading to an online meeting instead of a field visit to Bahir Dar, the discussions remained productive, focusing on data collection from the field and monitoring platforms.

In Kenya, the delegation met with partners at KALRO and AICS Nairobi. Dr. Mihcael Okoti from KALRO presented agroforestry practices involving several farmers, aiming to expand the impact to 2,500 farmers. The meetings emphasized the use of a geolocalizing toolbox for accurate data collection.

The mission reinforced WATDEV's dedication to water resources management and sustainable agriculture.

The mission's outcomes will contribute to a comprehensive monitoring report, summarizing efforts and achievements across the project's regions. As WATDEV progresses, this mission marks a significant step towards enhancing sustainable practices for local communities in Ethiopia and Kenya.
